Got questions about how a mobile whiskey masterclass works? We’ve got answers. Browse our most common questions below to learn more about our event logistics, host responsibilities, and tasting experiences.

Alcohol & Host Responsibilities

Do you supply, sell, or transport the alcohol for private events?

No. Whiskey Origins LLC is strictly a mobile education and entertainment service. We do not hold a liquor license, nor do we sell, supply, furnish, or transport alcoholic beverages. For private in-person events, the host or client purchases and provides all physical spirits evaluated during the masterclass. For venue partnerships, the licensed establishment sells and serves the alcohol under its existing liquor license.

How do we know what bottles to buy for our event?

We make the bottle sourcing process completely effortless. Once you select your curriculum theme, we provide you with a curated bottle shopping list tailored to your preferred budget and taste preferences. We also partner with select local bottle shops in Southwest Michigan so you can simply call ahead, pay over the phone, and pick up your complete event flight kit.

Who keeps the remaining alcohol after the event?

You do! Because the host purchases the spirits, every bottle—opened or unopened—remains entirely with the host at the conclusion of the event.

What does Whiskey Origins provide for the event?

We supply all educational and sensory infrastructure, including:

  • Professional Glencairn crystal glassware delivered, set up, and cleared.

  • Branded tasting mats and custom flavor wheel guides for every guest.

  • Certified presentation content and expert host instruction.

  • Interactive sensory materials (aroma guides and palate-cleansing routines).

What does the host need to provide?

The host simply provides:

  • The event space (a dining table, kitchen island, or comfortable seating setup with adequate lighting).

  • The physical bottles of whiskey (based on our recommended flight list).

  • Water for guests and optional light snacks/charcuterie pairings.

How long does a typical masterclass run?

Our masterclasses are designed to be unhurried, engaging, and thorough experiences lasting 90 to 120+ minutes. We arrive approximately 30 to 45 minutes prior to start time to set up glassware and tasting stations, and we handle all teardown immediately following the presentation.

How does glassware setup and cleanup work?

You don't need to worry about doing dishes. We deliver clean, polished Glencairn crystal glasses in commercial racks, arrange them at each tasting station, and pack them away at the end of the night to wash off-site.

Curriculum & Tasting Experience

What if some of our guests are complete beginners or don’t usually drink whiskey?

That is our specialty! Our curriculum is built around the principles of Whiskey Acceptance—making spirits education warm, inclusive, and accessible to everyone. We teach guests practical techniques to bypass high-proof "ethanol burn" so beginners can easily identify rich notes of vanilla, caramel, and baking spice. Nobody is ever put on the spot, and there is zero pretension.

Can we request a custom curriculum or rare/allocated bottles?

Absolutely. Beyond our five core curriculum modules, we offer bespoke masterclasses tailored to your exact vision. Whether you want to host a blind tasting competition, explore local Michigan craft distilleries, or curate a flight of rare "unicorn" bottles, we can design a custom deck and tasting lineup. (Note: Custom presentations require extra advance notice prior to your event date).

Can we mix different types of whiskey in one tasting?

Yes! Our Bourbon 101 and Grain Profile Differences modules are specifically designed to compare different styles side-by-side—including Bourbon, Rye, Tennessee Whiskey, and Single Malts—so your guests can discover what they truly enjoy.

Travel & Booking

What geographic areas do you cover?

We are based in Southwest Michigan and regularly service private residences, vacation rentals, corporate retreats, and commercial venues throughout New Buffalo, St. Joseph, South Haven, Saugatuck, Niles, and surrounding regions. Travel outside our primary radius can easily be accommodated upon request.

Is there an age requirement for attendees?

Yes. All attendees participating in a Whiskey Origins masterclass must be 21 years of age or older. Valid government-issued photo ID verification is required for all guests evaluating alcohol.

How do I book an event or request a venue partnership?

Simply head over to our Contact Page and fill out our brief event inquiry form. We’ll review your event details, confirm calendar availability, and follow up with a tailored proposal and bottle shopping guide.
