Officially Recognized by the Kentucky Distillers' Association (KDA)

The gold standard in spirits hospitality and the highest classification of bourbon educator recognized by the Kentucky Distillers' Association. This intensive credential guarantees an expert who can decode complex flavor maps and elevate a standard pour into an interactive masterclass.

• Grain-to-Glass Science: Deep mastery of distillation mechanics, mash bill formulations, strict legal classifications, and oak barrel maturation chemistry.

• Advanced Sensory Training: Hands-on training utilizing professional olfactory isolation kits to identify specific aromatic compounds, esters, and flavor notes.

• Masterclass Curation: Certified expertise in building dynamic tasting flights, pairing flavor profiles, and delivering authoritative spirits instruction.

 

Associate Degree in Whiskey Studies — Whiskey University

Officially Credentialed as a "Certified Whiskey Taster"

An academic-level curriculum requiring the completion of 24 extensive credits across specialized tasting courses and deep-dive distillery studies covering Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey, Rye, Canadian, and World Whiskies.

As one of the first 50 members enrolled in the inaugural Whiskey Confidence program created by Spirits Educator Sarah Jeltema (@Whiskeynomad), my training extends beyond traditional whiskey history to include the practical science and psychology of the pour.

Recent consumer research shows that merely engaging with whiskey acts as a symbolic cue that shifts a guest's mindset—evoking traits like strength, ruggedness, and confidence. Applying the core principles of Sarah’s curriculum, my goal is to help guests truly embody that confidence by mastering whiskey tasting, purchasing, and terminology without any of the traditional guesswork or pretension.

Through this specialized framework, I guide event attendees through highly practical sensory skills:

• The Mechanics of Tasting: Teaching proper nosing techniques, optimal glassware selection, and demonstrating how adding just a few drops of water can quiet ethanol "masking" to reveal hidden flavor notes.

• Production Realities: Demystifying complex manufacturing processes—such as chill filtration—and debunking common myths surrounding aged spirits.

The result is a warm, inclusive, and accessible presentation. Whether a guest is a seasoned bourbon collector or taking their very first sip of whiskey, they will leave the event feeling educated, capable, and genuinely welcomed into the culture.

Safety is the foundation of every Whiskey Origins event. Though we operate strictly as a non-pouring educational service, my TIPS certification guarantees that our events are structured around responsible consumption, standard pour measurements, and guest safety.

My absolute greatest passion lies in the history of Jasper Newton Daniel, the historic hollows of Lynchburg, Tennessee—the home of Jack Daniel's—and the enduring legacy of Tennessee Whiskey. My dedication to this specific heritage includes:

The Tennessee Squire Association (Inducted April 2025)

The Tennessee Squire Association is a unique, nomination-based community of people who share a deep appreciation for the history, culture, and hospitality of the Jack Daniel Distillery. Rather than a club you can simply sign up for, it’s a tradition passed down by existing members to recognize someone's genuine passion for Tennessee Whiskey heritage.

 

Combined with my seven study trips down to the historic hollows of Lynchburg, Tennessee, this membership is a reflection of my long time fascination with Jasper Newton Daniel and the people who make the whiskey. For my guests, it means my presentations aren't just reciting facts from a brand website—they are filled with the authentic stories, local lore, and warm Southern hospitality that I’ve been lucky enough to experience firsthand at the source.
